The Birth of MiXED

MiXED was born in the backseat of a 2010 Tahoe in the year 2022. Joseph was listening to music loud enough to drown out the noise outside the window of the vehicle as it moved along the backcountry roads of Virginia. His mother, sitting beside him, noticed how absorbed he was in his music and his thoughts. She then said she had a vision from the Lord and told him, "You need to make something for mixed people like yourself." This moment sparked a new sense of purpose in Joseph, inspiring him to create something meaningful.

He started to brainstorm about what he would do and how he would name it. The idea of combining different elements, cultures, and identities into one cohesive brand came to him naturally, symbolizing unity in diversity. Throughout the remainder of that day, the inspiration continued to grow. He reflected on his own experiences and the importance of representation, realizing that many people like him needed a voice and a platform to express themselves freely.

His thoughts and feelings about identity, acceptance, and self-expression shaped the core of what MiXED would stand for. The name itself was a reflection of the blending of different backgrounds, perspectives, and stories to create something unique and impactful. Joseph understood that this brand would be simple yet powerful, making a statement about the importance of embracing all aspects of who you are.

From that day forward, MiXED was more than just a name; it became a movement. It symbolized the strength found in diversity and the beauty of combining different elements into a harmonious whole. The brand was designed to inspire others to celebrate their individuality and to show that, no matter where you come from, you have the power to define yourself and make your mark within society.

  • Who is MiXED for?

MiXED was originally founded with the purpose of creating a platform specifically designed to serve mixed or bi-racial people. When the idea first came about, Joseph recognized that individuals from diverse backgrounds often face unique challenges and experiences that are not always understood or acknowledged by mainstream society. They envisioned a community where people could come together, share their stories, celebrate their identities, and find support among others who truly understand what it means to navigate life with a mixed heritage.

As time went on, however, the scope of MiXED expanded significantly. It became clear that the platform could serve a much broader audience—one that includes anyone who identifies as mixed, regardless of their racial or cultural background. Today, MiXED is a space where individuals with diverse identities, backgrounds, and experiences can connect, learn from each other, and foster a sense of belonging. The platform emphasizes that everyone’s story is unique, and that each person’s identity is valid and deserving of respect.

MiXED recognizes that, while backgrounds may differ, the shared experience of being a person of mixed heritage or identity can be a source of strength. The community encourages members to celebrate their differences and to see those differences as enriching rather than dividing. Whether someone has a mixed racial background, cultural heritage, or simply feels a connection to multiple identities, MiXED aims to create a safe, welcoming space for all.

In essence, MiXED is about embracing diversity and promoting the idea that everyone’s unique identity contributes to the beautiful mosaic of human experience. The platform strives to ensure that all members feel seen, heard, and appreciated for who they truly are—because, at its heart, MiXED is about unity in diversity.

  • ‘But Why Embrace Both? Just Pick One’

"It's not like that at all. Not even close. “As a Bi-Racial person, it is hard to pick one side over the other.” Joseph doesn't think that someone should have to pick which race they want to represent. In a world where there is still major division in race and color, Joseph has never been comfortable with picking a side. “I don't think mixed people should have to choose only one side. Everyone should feel comfortable in their own skin that holds these diverse backgrounds and identities.” The idea that one must select "a side" is a misconception and can be limiting for many individuals who feel connected to multiple cultures or races.

Joseph emphasizes that being mixed is a unique experience that can't be confined to a binary choice. Instead of feeling forced to align with one racial identity over another, individuals should be allowed to embrace all parts of their heritage simultaneously. It's about understanding that identity is complex and layered, and that it is okay to be different. We should be embracing those layers rather than trying to simplify or categorize them into just one.

Furthermore, we live in a society still grappling with divisions based on race and color, which can make it challenging for individuals who don't fit neatly into one box. Joseph advocates for a world where people are free to express and celebrate their multifaceted identities without fear of judgment or feeling like they have to "choose" a side. Everyone should feel comfortable and confident in their own skin—regardless of their racial background or how they identify.

In essence, Joseph sees that each person's experience is valid and that diversity should be seen as a strength rather than a complication. The goal is to welcome a community where everyone feels safe, respected, and proud of their unique identity, embracing all aspects of who they are.
